If you have an android smartphone , you can recover lost messages very easily. WhatsApp continues to back up all data including messages on a regular basis to Google Account. In fact, WA offers four frequency options for backing up data. Daily, weekly, monthly, and never. By default, the automatic Horu backup process is set to daily. If you haven’t changed it to never, you can easily recover all deleted messages.

Alternative Ways to Restore Deleted WA Chats on Android

WhatsApp also backs up data to your phone storage. You can use that backup file to restore WhatsApp messages. You need a good file manager app to use this method. We recommend using ES File Explorer and here are the steps you need to follow.

  • First, download and install a native file manager like ES file explorer.
  • After successful install, open the ES file explorer application.
  • Now go to local storage.
  • Here, find and tap on the WhatsApp folder. Next, go to the databases folder.
  • You will see two backup files here. One of them is msgstore.db. crytp12  and others msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db. crypt12 . FYI, YYYY-MM-DD is a sequence of Years-Months-Days which will be replaced by the date, month and year of the second last backup.
  • Now rename the msgstore file. DB. crytp12 for msgstore-latest.db. cryptp12 .
  • Next, rename the file msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crytp12 .
  • Exit file explorer and open your Google drive.
  • Here, go to backup and delete WhatsApp backup file.
  • Now uninstall WhatsApp and reinstall it again.
  • Go through the setup process. When WhatsApp asks you to restore data, tap Restore .

You can use this method to restore older chats as the latest version will only have the newest chats. If WhatsApp performs a backup after messages are deleted, you can use the penultimate backup file to restore chats like we did above.
